IMG Group Solar Purlin Profiles

Solar purlin profiles are aluminium sections used in photovoltaic mounting structures to support panel layouts and transfer loads towards connection points. Different sections are assessed against the project spans, supports and mounting arrangement.

Applications and Technical Selection

A purlin connects the panel layout to the supporting structure. Loads pass through clamps and connections into the structural system. Section geometry, support positions and joint details determine this load path, so profile selection must follow the panel layout and structural design.

Roof mounted and ground mounted installations can have different supporting arrangements. Roof fixing points, panel rows, inclination and available spans influence the profile layout. A quantity list does not establish structural suitability; the final material schedule should follow the approved project.

The catalogue includes 100, 80 and 60 series profiles, square type sections and rectangular alternatives. Their names help distinguish products but do not establish wall thickness, channel geometry or load capacity. Variants with the same name and different catalogue weight values require separate drawing checks.

Y brackets and L brackets are connection profiles included in this group. Select them according to the joint orientation, hole positions and compatibility with adjacent elements. The bracket, bolts, contact surfaces and assembly detail must be considered together.

Show panel fixing lines and support points on the same drawing. Define section orientation, continuation and splice locations before preparing cutting and machining schedules. Listing pieces by length and drawing reference helps transport, site identification and installation sequencing. Transport convenience should not determine profile lengths independently of the structural layout.

Preparing Your Enquiry

Provide the following information with the project drawings. List profiles and accessories separately to define the supply requirement.

  • Panel dimensions, rows, mounting orientation and inclination.
  • Support positions, spans and section working direction.
  • Profile drawings, variant reference and required lengths.
  • Project wind and snow actions, deflection criteria and connection calculations.
  • Cutting, drilling and splice requirements shown on drawings.
  • Quantities by length, total metres and delivery location.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does a heavier profile always provide greater load capacity? Weight alone is not a capacity measure. Geometry, material properties, span and loading direction must be assessed together.

Can one purlin be used on every roof? Roof structures and fixing conditions vary. Each project requires its own assessment rather than direct reuse of a profile from another installation.

How are profile lengths and splices determined? Use the panel layout, support spans, assembly sequence and designed splice details. Consider transport lengths within those constraints.
